5.   Killed and missing Serbs according to VERITAS records

Listings of missing/ killed persons

5.1. On the basis of the above criteria, VERITAS verified 6,990 killed and missing persons until 31. October 2011.
Of the total number of those killed and missing, so far, 4,917 persons have been buried (families confirmed their identification, collected and buried their remains), whereas 2,073 persons are still considered as missing (according to groups: missing - 1,094; missing/killed - 463; missing/buried - 516).
In view of the passage of time and the cessation of hostilities, it is highly unlikely that anyone listed as missing is still alive, so that those missing should be regarded as killed.

5.2. Killed
According to VERITAS records (the situation on 31 October  2011) in the most recent war and the post-war period (1990-1998) at least 4,917 persons (71% of the total number of those killed and missing) were killed in the territories of Croatia and the former RSK.
According to sex: 4,451 (91%) men and 466 (9%) women;
According to age: 50 people under 18 years of age (1%) were killed; 3,782 people between 18 and 60 (77%) were also killed; while 671 people aged over 60 (14%) were in this category as well; 414 killed persons (8%) have not been identified as belonging to a specific age group;
According to status: 1,159 civilians (24%) were killed; 3,588 military men (73%) and 170 police officers (3%) were also killed.
According to the year of death: 3 people were killed in 1990; 1,982 people (40%) were killed in 1991; 792 (16%) people were killed in 1992; 760 (15%) people were killed in 1993; 237 (5%) people were killed in 1994; 1,112 (23%) people were killed in 1995; 17 people were killed in 1996; 6 people were killed in 1997 and 8 people were killed in 1998.
According to regions of death: 678 people were killed in the Banija region; 965 people were killed in the region of Eastern Slavonia; 746 people were killed in the Lika region; 345 people were killed in the Kordun region; 1.318 people were killed in the region of Northern Dalmatia; 529 people were killed in the region of Western Slavonia; 63 people were killed in the interior of Croatia, while 273 people were killed in the territory of BiH.
Those killed were mainly Serbs (only small number belonged to other ethnic groups which lived or fought together with Serbs in the RSK).

5.3.  Missing
Currently (31 October 2011), the VERITAS list of missing persons contains 2,073 persons (30% of the total number of those killed and missing).
According to sex: 1,524 (74%) were men and 549 (26%) were women.
According to status: The fate is still unknown for 1,386 (67%) civilians, 669 (32%) military men and 18 (1%) police officers.
According to age: In the category under 18, 14 persons are still considered missing; in the category between ages 18 and 60, still missing are 1.143 (55%) persons; there were 789 (38%) persons aged 60 and over when they went missing; and the age of 127 (6%) persons is not known.
According to the year of disappearance: 685 (33%) persons went missing in 1991; 101 (5%) persons went missing in 1992; 37 persons went missing in 1993; 8 persons went missing in 1994; 1,214 (59%) persons went missing in 1995; 22 persons went missing in 1996; 6 persons went missing in 1997.
According to the region of disappearance: 481 persons went missing in the region of Banija; 137 persons went missing in Eastern Slavonia; 372 persons went missing in Lika; 126 persons went missing in Kordun; 271 persons went missing in Northern Dalmatia; 570 persons went missing in Western Slavonia; 58 persons went missing in the interior of Croatia, while 58 persons went missing in the territory of BiH.
The missing were mainly Serbs (a smaller number of them belong to other ethnic groups which lived or fought alongside Serbs in the RSK).
