VoiceOfSerbia.com, 21.01.2015., Veritas: No one has been tried for the “Maslenica” operation yet

The Veritas Documentation and Information Centre has warned that no one has been tried, either at national or international courts, for crimes committed against Serbs from Ravni Kotari, Croatia, in the “Maslenica” operation on 22 January 1993, when Croatian forces exerted aggression on a UN protected zone, in the presence of UNPROFOR members.

In that operation, 348 Serb soldiers and civilians were killed, including 35 women and three children under 12, while eight persons are reported missings and another 165, mostly elderly ones, died while trying to escape.

Twenty-two years later, the Ravni Kotari villages are still, to the shame of the Croatian state and the international community, a grey zone when return of Serb refugees is concerned. In those villages, Serbs were either killed, expelled or taken to prisons or camps, their property was plundered and destroyed and cultural monuments, cemeteries and churches desecrated or torn down by Croatian forces, Veritas emphasizes.
